Phil Lang is a literary agent and an associate of Kimberley Cameron at the Reece Halsey North Literary Agency, where he has worked since 2006. His interests are in literary fiction, commercial fiction, as well as mysteries and thrillers. In nonfiction he is looking for biography, history, current events, and pop culture (especially in the areas of music and sports).

Regardless of the genre, he searches for distinct voices and original perspectives that explore the world as he doesn't know it. He's drawn to writing that achieves a balance of character and plot, and how one shapes the other. He has an intense appreciation for concise writing that is ceaseless in its tension and earns its emotional power, but he's never been averse to a writer who can make him laugh. Among others, he's worked with authors Matt Delaney and Steve Sohmer. Some of his favorite books include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Catcher in the Rye, The Things They Carried, Cannery Row, The Magus, Confessions of an Economic Hitman, Songbook, Freakonomics, and Moneyball.

Phil attended Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) where he graduated with degrees in English Composition and Secondary Education, and he completed his MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco. He enjoys meeting with driven new writers and discovering fresh voices. When not working, he gets a kick out of playing in his band, taking his puppy to the beach, and (of course) writing.
